Shooting Location: Astoria, Oregon, USA.

Clatsop County Jail, 732 Duane Street at 9th Street.

These contemporary photographs of the location were shot by me in August 2004, 20 years after filming!

George Robotham, the stunt coordinator who also played the prison guard, was Anne Ramsey's photo double in the driving stunts.

The last name of the brothers who are chasing the Goonies is Fratelli. Fratelli means "brothers" in Italian.

If you look closely, there were some shots where it was pretty obvious the driver was a man instead of a woman.
When Chunk calls the police to explain about the Fratellis, the cop disbelieves him, recalling all of Chunk's wild stories. One of which involved "little creatures that mutate when you pour water on them." This is a reference to Gremlins, also written by Chris Columbus and also co-starring Corey Feldman.

These pictures of the location were shot by me in August 2004. Except for the paint job, the building looks mostly the same as it did in the movie. This scene for the opening sequence with Rosarita dodging traffic was shot at the intersection of 37th Street and Highway 30. This following scene was shot at the store at 304 -37th Street at Highway 30.

The building in the background currently houses the Astoria Coffee Company at 304 -37th Street.

The Lipton's Ice Tea logo above the front door looks the same as it did in the movie.

It's interesting to note that the map in the picture left incorrectly says Astoria County when it should have said Clatsop County!

The original cut was over four hours long. This was one of many, many scenes that were edited out, although only a handful are accessible today.

The scenes on the right, are shot inside the house.

Some of the crew members played extras in the film. One cameraman played Mouth's father. Another played the dead man in the freezer. And an assistant director plays one of the cops on the AV scooters on the beach at the end.

Shooting Location: Cannon Beach, Oregon, USA.

The truck ralley is on the beach at Cannon Beach's
"Haystack Rock".

Filming this intensive of a scene here might not be allowed today since in 1990 the area around "Haystack Rock" was classified as a Protected Marine Garden and Bird Sanctuary. Haystack Rock is 235 feet tall and is considered the third largest monolith in the world.

Shooting Location: Astoria, Oregon, USA.

The "Goonies House" is located at 368 -38th Street.

View down to Astoria and the Astoria Bridge Highway 101.

During the scene where the boys are sitting in the living room watching MTV, they were not actually watching the Cyndi Lauper "Good Enough" video, which was to be developed six months after filming wrapped up.

Data's (Jonathan Ke Quan) house, next-door to the "Goonies House", is located at 304 -38th Street.

The pirate ship was entirely real. All the shots were filmed in the ship, not on separate stages. After the film, it was offered to anyone who would take it, but sadly, no one wanted it, so the ship was chopped into scraps.

That's Richard Donner's production motorhome visible in the lower-right corner of the left picture.

The newspaper photo of Chester Copperpot is identical to the image that appears framed on Judge Oliver Wright's desk in Shock Treatment.

The "Goonie House" is in private property.

The music played when the kids discover the tunnel in the Fratellis' hideout by accidentally pouring water down it, is the same piece of music played in The Great Escape when the Germans discover the prisoners' first tunnel by accidentally pouring coffee down it.

Irving Walsh's museum was filmed at the Flavel House,
441 -8th Street between Duane and Exchange Streets, Astoria. This Queen Anne style mansion, built in 1885, really does house the Clatsop County Historical Society museum.

Shooting Location: Ecola Park at Cannon Beach, Oregon, USA.

The model ship seen sailing at the film's end has a miniature R2-D2 (from Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope)
hidden on the deck.

View to the "Haystack Rock" at Cannon Beach.

Director Cameo: (Richard Donner) one of the sheriffs on the quads as the Goonies exit the cave with the ship. He's the one with the gray hair.

These were all shot further north in Ecola State Park. The exterior of the Lighthouse Lounge was built by the film crew.

The kids who played the Goonies were allowed to bring some of their families into the final scene where they are reunited.

Today is Ecola Park is a recreation Park.

According to Sean Astin, he was allowed to keep the treasure map used in the film. However, the map was lost forever when his mother discovered it several years later, thought it was just a crinkled piece of paper, and threw it in the trash.

Beautiful view on Astoria from "The Astoria Columm".

Most of the jailbreak sequence was directed by Steven Spielberg. Richard Donner was directing the scenes with the kids at the Walsh House at the same time. Throughout the production, most of the scenes with adults were shot by Spielberg and most of the scenes with kids were shot by Donner.

" Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here. That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket. "
Mikey Walsh played by Sean Astin
